Patna: The Bihar government will hold a cabinet meeting on May 6, a day before a planned expansion of the council of ministers, in a move seen as paving the way for a fresh round of policy approvals and administrative decisions.
The meeting, convened by chief minister Samrat Choudhary, is scheduled for 5pm at the state secretariat in Patna. Senior figures, including deputy chief ministers Bijendra Yadav and Vijay Kumar Choudhary, are expected to attend.
Officials indicated that several proposals linked to development initiatives across departments could be cleared during the session. The timing of the meeting—just a day before the cabinet expansion—suggests it is intended to finalise decisions before new ministers are inducted.
Preparations are under way for the swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for May 7 at Gandhi Maidan. The event is expected to be attended by the prime minister, Narendra Modi, along with several Union ministers.
Choudhary, who took office in mid-April, has moved quickly to convene cabinet meetings and push through decisions. At a meeting on April 29, the government approved 63 proposals spanning multiple departments. Among them was a measure to rename the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park management body as the Patna Zoo Management and Development Committee.
Earlier, on April 22, the cabinet cleared 22 agenda items in its first meeting under the new administration, with both deputy chief ministers in attendance.
The chief minister recently visited Delhi to finalise the list of ministers for the upcoming expansion, securing approval from the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership. Since returning, he has continued to tour the state ahead of the reshuffle.
The expansion on May 7 is expected to bring new faces into the government, with senior national and state leaders gathering in Patna for the ceremony.
