Patna: The Bihar Transport Department has directed all District Transport Officers (DTOs) to identify suitable locations for the installation of an Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) at around 700 sites across the state, in an effort to strengthen traffic regulation and reduce road accidents.
State Transport Commissioner (STC) has instructed officials to not only finalise already shortlisted locations but also explore additional sites based on ground-level requirements.
According to the department, the selection process will be carried out in coordination with the state Traffic Police, whose inputs will be sought to ensure technical accuracy and operational feasibility. Factors such as traffic density, accident-prone stretches, and enforcement needs will be central to the assessment of sites.
Officials said the ITMS initiative is part of a broader push towards modernising traffic management systems in the state. Once operational, the system is expected to support AI-based e-challan issuance, real-time surveillance, facial recognition capabilities, and other enforcement tools aimed at improving compliance with road safety rules.
The department added that efforts are being made to expedite the identification process so that installations can begin at the earliest, ensuring maximum efficiency in deployment and use of the system across key urban and highway corridors.
