Gaya: A heated dispute broke out at the GayaJi Municipal Corporation (GMC) office on Friday morning after disagreements emerged over the execution of sairat tenders linked to several civic properties, including Kedarnath Market and the Panchayati Akhara bus stand.

The altercation involved acting municipal commissioner Shashikant and the assistant official Nishant Kumar, with witnesses reporting that the argument quickly escalated into a tense verbal confrontation inside the corporation office. According to employees present at the scene, both officials exchanged sharp remarks and allegedly issued threats to “deal with” one another.

The dispute reportedly began during proceedings related to the execution of lease tenders for three municipal sites. Officials and employees attempted to calm the situation, but tensions remained high for an extended period as staff and visitors gathered around the office premises

Video of incident circulates among staff

A video related to the confrontation has reportedly spread among municipal employees and sparked discussion within the civic body.

Acting commissioner cites lack of financial authority

Shashikant said that he had only been assigned responsibility for routine administrative work by the municipal commissioner and did not possess the financial authority required to proceed with the tender execution process.

He alleged that pressure was being exerted on him to move forward with the tenders despite the absence of formal financial powers.

Assistant official rejects allegations

On the other hand, Nishant Kumar denied the accusations and said he was acting under instructions from the municipal commissioner. He accused the acting commissioner of using inappropriate language during the exchange, which he said intensified the dispute.

Employees raise concerns over office work culture

The incident has triggered debate among municipal employees, with differing opinions emerging over who was responsible for the confrontation. Some staff members expressed concern that repeated incidents of this nature were damaging the work culture inside the corporation office.

Employees familiar with the functioning of the civic body said tense confrontations within the office had occurred on previous occasions as well.
