Nawada/Patna: Police have arrested a man in Nawada district, accused of being involved in an interstate cybercrime network that allegedly defrauded people across multiple Indian states through fake investment schemes.
The arrest was made during a special operation launched against cybercrime and online fraud under the direction of the superintendent of police on Friday.
EOU Input Led to Investigation
According to Nawada headquarters deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Nishu Mallik, the district cyber police station received intelligence from the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Patna regarding suspicious banking activity linked to cyber fraud and illegal financial transactions.
Mallik said a special investigation team (SIT) was formed to verify the information and conduct further inquiries. Investigators used technical analysis, banking records, cybercrime portal data and human intelligence to trace the operation.
Suspect Arrested After Raid
During the investigation, police identified a bank account operating under the name “Sonali Enterprises”, allegedly managed by Balveer Prasad (30), a resident of Kekonia in the Nagar police station area. Police conducted a raid on May 8 and arrested the suspect before bringing him in for questioning.
Fake Investment Scheme Uncovered
According to police, digital and technical evidence suggested the accused lured victims with promises of high returns through online investments and stock market schemes. Funds obtained through the alleged fraud were reportedly transferred into the account under investigation.
Victims Across Multiple States
Authorities said victims from Maharashtra, Rajasthan and other states had been identified during the inquiry. Investigators also alleged that the accused played a role in distributing money obtained through the scams.
Transactions Worth Crores Under Scanner
Police said approximately Rs. 1.04 Crore in suspicious transactions had been detected in the bank account. Investigators added that preliminary findings from victims in other states suggested the wider fraud network may have cheated people out of nearly Rs. 10 crore.
Cyber police inspector Prabha Kumari is continuing the investigation and efforts are under way to identify and arrest other members of the alleged network.
Police have urged the public to remain cautious about online investment offers and avoid clicking on suspicious links.
