Patna: The Bihar government on Monday inaugurated the long-awaited Mandiri Drain-Road Project in Patna, a major urban infrastructure initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion and strengthening the city’s drainage network.
The project, developed under the supervision of Patna Smart City Limited, was inaugurated by Samrat Choudhary along with BJP national president Nitin Nabin. The newly developed corridor has been named Naveen Kishore Sinha Path.
Built at a cost of Rs 115 crore, the project includes a 1,289-metre-long box drain and a two-lane link road stretching from the Income Tax roundabout on Bailey Road to Bans Ghat on the Danapur–Bankipur route, creating direct connectivity with Ashok Rajpath.
Officials said the Mandiri drain was renovated and covered to allow the construction of the road above it. Six culverts, two ramps and three desilting chambers have also been built as part of the project to improve drainage maintenance and water flow management.
According to the government, the upgraded drainage channel will carry water from several major catchment areas, including SP Verma Road, Mithapur, Gardanibagh, Babu Bazar, Dhobighat, Eco Park, Chhajjubagh, MLA Flats and Sinchai Bhawan.
Authorities said the road is expected to provide relief from chronic traffic congestion in wards 21, 24, 25, 26 and 27 by offering an alternative route between Bailey Road and Ashok Rajpath.
The project also features utility ducts, four sluice gates for drainage control, landscaping and modern street lighting.
Several senior leaders and officials attended the inauguration ceremony, including Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Sanjay Saraogi, Nitish Mishra, Ram Kripal Yadav, MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia and Patna mayor Sita Sahu.
