Saharsa/Patna: The East Central Railway is planning to increase the maximum speed of express trains on the Purnia–Saharsa rail section from the existing 100 kmph to 130 kmph.
Samastipur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jyotish Prakash Mishra shared the information during an inspection of Janakinagar railway station. He said track strengthening and upgrade work was underway to support higher-speed train operations.
Railway officials said the infrastructure upgrade is aimed at improving travel time, operational efficiency and passenger safety on the route.
Station facilities under review at Janakinagar
During the inspection, the DRM reviewed CCTV cameras installed under the Nirbhaya scheme at Janakinagar station. He also inspected the construction work of a new waiting room on the platform.
Officials said the waiting room is expected to be completed soon to improve passenger amenities at the station.
The railway administration is also preparing to restore UTS and PRS ticket booking services at the booking counter, which is expected to make ticket access easier for local passengers.
Revised timetable for Purnia Court–Anand Vihar special
East Central Railway has also revised the schedule of the Purnia Court–Anand Vihar special train to reduce overall travel time.
According to the revised timetable, the journey duration will be reduced from 32 hours and 30 minutes to 30 hours.
From May 15, train number 05579 Purnia Court–Anand Vihar Special will depart at 7 pm instead of 4.30 pm on Fridays and Sundays. The train will reach Anand Vihar at 1.05 am on the third day.
In the return direction, train number 05580 Anand Vihar–Purnia Court Special will arrive earlier than before, reaching Purnia Court at 11.30 am instead of 1.45 pm.
