Patna: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will take into custody seven people arrested in connection with the NEET-UG question paper leak case for detailed interrogation, as it expands its probe into the alleged interstate racket.
The agency is expected to question the accused about the suspected financial trail, the extent of access provided to candidates, and the wider network believed to be operating across multiple states. Officials will also examine electronic and documentary evidence seized during earlier raids.
Among those being interrogated is Avdhesh Kumar, an MBBS student, along with other individuals accused of involvement in the alleged leak and facilitation network. The CBI is also expected to map the geographical spread of the operation and identify additional suspects.
The case first came to light on the night of May 2, when police conducting a routine vehicle check under the Pawapuri police station limits intercepted a car and detained three individuals. A substantial amount of cash—reportedly running into lakhs of rupees—was recovered from the vehicle, according to officials involved in the investigation.
Subsequent examination of mobile phones seized from the suspects, particularly from Avdhesh Kumar, allegedly provided leads that helped investigators uncover a wider syndicate.
Following these leads, police in Nalanda district conducted coordinated raids across Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Sitamarhi and Chhapra, resulting in the arrest of seven people in total.
Among those arrested are Aman Kumar Singh, Harsh Raj, Pankaj Kumar and Manoj Kumar, alongside two other accused persons identified by investigators.
Police have also recovered admit cards of several candidates and other examination-related documents from the devices of the accused, which will now be analysed by the CBI as part of its ongoing investigation into the alleged conspiracy surrounding the NEET-UG examination paper leak case.
All seven accused were earlier remanded to judicial custody. With the CBI now formally taking over key aspects of the investigation, officials say the focus will shift to reconstructing the financial and logistical links between those arrested and any larger organised network.
