Patna: Bihar food and consumer protection minister Ashok Choudhary has said the Bihar government is preparing a new regulatory framework that would make the provision of PNG (Piped Natural Gas) lines mandatory for new apartment projects across the state.
Speaking to reporters after attending a public hearing programme at the Janata Dal United office on Thursday, Choudhary said the government was working to expand urban gas infrastructure and improve long-term energy access in Bihar.
According to the minister, the proposed regulation would require builders to ensure PNG connectivity before receiving approval for apartment construction projects.
He said: “Preparations are underway to formulate a new regulation under which the provision of PNG lines will be mandated before the construction of any new apartment complexes. Permission for apartment construction will be granted only after this requirement has been fulfilled.”
Government Expanding PNG Infrastructure
Choudhary said the government was actively working to extend PNG infrastructure to as many areas as possible in the coming years.
He also dismissed speculation regarding shortages of:
- diesel
- petrol
- cooking gas
in Bihar.
According to him, there was “no shortage of any kind” in the state and no reason for public concern.
The minister said the government had already reviewed the matter at a high level and was continuously working to strengthen energy supply systems.
Remarks Made During Public Hearing Programme
Choudhary was accompanied by Shweta Gupta during the public grievance hearing session organised at the party office.
Referring to the “Sahyog Karyakram” launched under the leadership of CM Samrat Chaudhary, the minister said the initiative aimed to directly hear and address grievances of citizens across Bihar.
He said the government was attempting to resolve public issues not only through official administrative programmes but also through interactions at party offices.
According to Choudhary:
- officials have been directed to respond proactively to public complaints
- the government was treating citizens’ concerns seriously
- efforts were underway to strengthen public outreach and service delivery mechanisms
The proposed PNG requirement is expected to become part of Bihar’s broader urban infrastructure and energy planning strategy.
