Patna: Bihar is expected to witness a return of intense summer conditions from Sunday as the recent spell of storms and rainfall begins to fade, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Meteorologists have forecast a gradual rise in temperatures over the next three to four days, with maximum temperatures likely to increase by as much as 5C across several parts of the state.
The change comes after a period of unseasonal storms and widespread rainfall that brought temporary relief from the heat but also caused significant disruption, including fatalities and power outages in several districts.
Dry Weather Expected Across Most Districts
The Patna Meteorological Centre said weather conditions are likely to remain largely dry across Bihar from May 31 onwards.
With skies expected to clear, temperatures are forecast to rise steadily, potentially leading to uncomfortable heat conditions in many areas.
While isolated pockets of northwestern, western and southwestern Bihar may receive light rainfall accompanied by gusty winds, forecasters said such activity is unlikely to have a significant impact on the overall weather pattern.
Officials attributed the recent instability to the influence of a western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation system over northwestern Uttar Pradesh, which has gradually weakened.

June Forecast Signals Hotter Conditions
The IMD’s monthly outlook suggests that Bihar is likely to experience above-normal temperatures during June.
Several districts, particularly in South Bihar, could face heatwave conditions as temperatures climb during the coming weeks.
The forecast follows a month in which districts including Kaimur, Rohtas and Chapra repeatedly recorded temperatures between 40C and 45C before the recent spell of rain brought temporary relief.
Meteorologists have warned that the combination of rising temperatures and dry weather could increase heat stress across the state.
Recent Rainfall Brings Temporary Relief
The storms and rainfall that swept across Bihar over the past few days significantly lowered temperatures.
On Friday and Saturday, maximum temperatures remained below 38C throughout the state. Kaimur recorded the highest temperature on May 30 at 37.1C, while Rohtas, Supaul and Purnia reported temperatures of around 35C.
Most other districts remained below the 35C mark, although strong sunshine during the afternoon continued to cause discomfort in some urban centres.

- Darbhanga: 32.6C
- Bhagalpur: 33.4C
- Gaya: 33.2C
- Nalanda: 32.2C
- Aurangabad: 33.7C
- Supaul: 35.1C
- Valmikinagar: 34C
- Chapra: 33.1C
Heatwave Risk Returns
The latest forecast suggests that the respite provided by the recent storms may be short-lived.
With rainfall activity expected to diminish and temperatures projected to rise steadily, residents across Bihar are likely to face a return of hot and humid conditions in the days ahead, with June shaping up to be one of the warmer months of the season.
