Patna: The election for the Empowered Standing Committee of the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) concluded peacefully on Friday, with 73 of the corporation’s 75 councilors participating in the voting process.
The election was held to constitute the Empowered Standing Committee, one of the key decision-making bodies within the municipal corporation. Candidates contested seats under various serial numbers, and the results were declared following the counting of votes.
Election Results Declared
According to the official results, Kumar Sanjeet secured victory for Serial No. 01 with 39 votes, defeating Pinky Yadav, who received 31 votes.
For Serial No. 02, Rajkumar Gupta was elected after securing 38 votes, while Rajni Sinha polled 34 votes.
Shweta Rai won the contest for Serial No. 03 with 40 votes, ahead of Jeet Kumar, who secured 31 votes.
In Serial No. 04, Munna Jaiswal emerged victorious with 40 votes, while Seema Verma received 32 votes.
Sunita Devi was elected unanimously for Serial No. 05.
For Serial No. 06, Anita Devi won with 36 votes, narrowly defeating Jai Prakash Singh, who secured 35 votes.
Vinod Kumar was elected for Serial No. 07 after receiving 43 votes. Manoj Mehta secured 28 votes. PMC officials noted that another councilor from this serial category had already been nominated unanimously to the committee before the election.
Two Councilors Remain Absent
Ward No. 24 councilor Gyanwati Devi and Ward No. 30 councilor Kaveri Singh did not participate in the voting process.
Mayor Congratulates Newly Elected Members
Following the declaration of results, Mayor Sita Sahu congratulated the newly elected members of the Standing Committee.
In a statement, the Mayor said the election marked the end of “serial number politics” and the beginning of a broader focus on empowering the city. She described the Standing Committee as the backbone of the municipal corporation and urged the elected members to prioritise the development of Patna.
The Mayor also announced that the first meeting of the newly constituted Empowered Standing Committee would be convened soon. The meeting is expected to deliberate on development projects and other matters of public interest concerning the city.
