Patna: Summer camps for children studying in government schools across Patna will begin on June 1 and continue until June 21, according to guidelines issued by the district education authorities. The initiative aims to strengthen foundational learning among primary school students through activity-based teaching methods.

The programme will be conducted in 50 selected government schools across the district, including institutions in the Phulwari Sharif, Naubatpur and Vikram blocks. Students from Classes 1 to 6 will participate in the camps.

Focus On Foundational Learning

Education officials said the camps are designed to improve children’s foundational literacy and numeracy skills during the summer break.

Special classes will be held daily from 7am to 9am. Students will be grouped according to their grade levels to ensure age-appropriate learning. Separate instructional groups will be created for Classes 1 and 2 and for Classes 4 to 6, with particular emphasis on language and mathematics.

Activity-Based Teaching Methods

According to Kritika Verma, District Education Programme Officer, the camps will prioritise learning through play and interactive activities.

Teaching materials developed under the Foundational Literacy Empowerment and Library Programme will be used during the sessions. Officials said the approach is intended to make learning more engaging and accessible for young children.

Structured Daily Schedule

The summer camps will follow a structured daily routine aimed at supporting both academic and cognitive development.

The schedule includes 10 minutes of games, 20 minutes of story and paragraph-based activities, 10 minutes of phonics exercises, 15 minutes of vocabulary-building sessions and 10 minutes dedicated to a “Question of the Day” activity.

Education officials said the programme has been designed to encourage participation, improve language skills and strengthen basic learning outcomes through a mix of structured lessons and recreational activities.
