Patna: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna on Saturday hosted the closing-cum-felicitation ceremony of Yuva Sangam Phase VI at its Senate Hall, marking the conclusion of a week-long youth exchange programme conducted under the Government of India’s Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative.
The programme was held from May 23 to 30 and brought together around 50 participants, including students from various districts of Punjab, delegates from IIT Ropar and accompanying officials. During their visit, participants explored cultural, historical, educational, industrial and heritage sites across Bihar.
Dignitaries attend closing ceremony
The ceremony was attended by Bihar Panchayati Raj Minister Deepak Prakash as chief guest and Guruvindar Singh, Vice-President of the Prabandhak Committee of Takhat Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib, as guest of honour.
Also present were Prof T N Singh, Director of IIT Patna; Prof A K Thakur, Dean (Administration); and Dr Satendra Kumar, Nodal Officer for Yuva Sangam Phase VI, along with faculty members, officials, students and participants.
The event began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a Saraswati Vandana. The chief guest and guest of honour were felicitated with shawls, mementos and saplings.
Focus on national integration and cultural exchange
Addressing the gathering, Prof Singh highlighted the role of determination and decision-making in students’ lives. He said programmes such as Yuva Sangam create opportunities for people from different regions and backgrounds to interact, learn from one another and strengthen national unity.
Guruvindar Singh spoke about Bihar’s significance in Sikh history and spirituality, particularly the importance of Takhat Sri Harmandir Ji Patna Sahib. He said the delegates’ visit would help them gain a deeper understanding of the state and its cultural heritage.

Youth urged to contribute to Viksit Bharat
In his address, Deepak Prakash said India’s diversity is one of its key strengths. He noted that young people from Bihar and Punjab have the potential to contribute significantly to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 through collaboration and shared learning.
Certificates and mementos distributed
Delegates from IIT Ropar were presented with mementos, while all participants from Punjab received certificates of participation. Coordinators and organising team members from IIT Patna were also awarded certificates of appreciation for their role in conducting the programme.
Tree plantation drive held
As part of the programme’s focus on environmental sustainability, dignitaries participated in a tree plantation drive on the campus. Saplings were planted to promote environmental conservation and awareness.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem.
