Patna: Residents across Bihar may soon have to brace for a return of scorching temperatures, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a sharp rise in temperatures after a brief spell of rain and thunderstorms.
While several districts remain under alert for heavy rainfall, lightning and strong winds, meteorologists have warned that heatwave conditions could re-emerge across parts of the state between June 4 and June 6.
The latest forecast suggests that the respite from the heat experienced over the past few days may be short-lived.
Rain And Thunderstorm Alert Issued
The IMD has issued warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several districts, including Patna, Gaya, East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Saran, Siwan, Buxar, Bhojpur, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Supaul, Saharsa, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Munger, Araria, Khagaria, Begusarai and Lakhisarai on Monday.
According to the forecast, wind speeds could reach between 70 and 75kmph in some areas during periods of intense weather activity.
Patna is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 37C on June 1, with the minimum temperature likely to remain close to 28C.
Heatwave Conditions Likely From June 4
Meteorologists have warned that temperatures are expected to rise steadily during the opening days of June.
As rainfall activity diminishes and skies clear, large parts of Bihar could once again experience intense heat. The IMD has indicated that heatwave conditions may develop across several districts between June 4 and June 6.
The forecast comes after a period of unusually cool and wet weather for late May, driven by strong easterly winds and weather systems over the Bay of Bengal.

Pre-Monsoon Weather Continues
Bihar remains in the pre-monsoon phase, a period often characterised by sharp fluctuations in weather conditions.
On May 31, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is expected at isolated locations across the state. Wind speeds during these events could range between 40 and 50kmph.
Weather experts say such conditions are typical before the onset of the southwest monsoon, when intense daytime heating is often followed by evening thunderstorms and rainfall.
Heavy Rainfall Recorded In East Champaran
Over the past 24 hours, several districts have recorded significant rainfall.
According to official data, parts of East Champaran received up to 7cm of rainfall, which falls under the category of heavy rain. The showers contributed to a noticeable drop in temperatures across the region and provided temporary relief from the heat.
However, with temperatures expected to climb sharply during the coming week, meteorologists are advising residents to prepare for another spell of intense summer conditions before the arrival of the monsoon.
