Patna: After several days of thunderstorms and rainfall brought respite from the scorching summer heat across Bihar, weather conditions are once again shifting, with temperatures and humidity expected to rise in the coming days.
The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Meteorological Centre on Monday issued a weather alert for six districts in the Seemanchal region, forecasting rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Weather conditions are expected to remain largely normal across the state’s remaining 32 districts.
According to meteorologists, maximum temperatures across Bihar may increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next few days, making conditions warmer and more uncomfortable for residents.
During the past 24 hours, strong winds were reported in Siwan and Saran (Chhapra) districts, while Siwan also received rainfall.
Heat Likely to Intensify Over the Next Week
Weather experts have predicted a gradual increase in heat across most parts of Bihar during the coming week. Rising daytime temperatures and strong sunshine are expected to push mercury levels higher.
However, some areas of northeastern Bihar may continue to experience localized cloud formation and isolated rainfall. Residents of southern and central Bihar are likely to face hot and humid conditions over the next seven days, with warm winds expected during afternoon hours.
Why Is the Weather Changing?
According to weather scientists, the recent spell of rain and thunderstorms in Bihar was primarily caused by the combined influence of a western disturbance, cyclonic circulation, and moisture influx from the Bay of Bengal. These weather systems led to cloud formation and rainfall across several parts of the state.
The influence of these systems is now weakening, reducing the likelihood of widespread rainfall. However, sporadic rain activity may continue in the Seemanchal and Kosi regions due to moisture being supplied from the Bay of Bengal.
Patna Likely to Witness Clear Skies
The state capital is expected to experience generally clear weather on Monday. Light cloud cover may be seen during the morning hours, but sunshine is likely to intensify as the day progresses.
The rise in maximum temperature could increase both heat and humidity levels in the city. While evening breezes may provide some relief, there is currently no significant possibility of rainfall in Patna.
Will the Monsoon Arrive Late in Bihar?
One of the key concerns among residents is whether the southwest monsoon will reach Bihar later than usual this year.
Meteorologists have said that the monsoon is currently advancing at a normal pace, although it will take a few more days to reach the state. Typically, the monsoon enters eastern Bihar between June 10 and June 15 before gradually covering the entire state.
Based on the present weather conditions, experts do not foresee any major delay in the arrival of the monsoon. If favourable conditions continue over the Bay of Bengal, the monsoon is expected to enter Bihar through the Seemanchal region during the second week of June.
