Darbhanga/Patna : Darbhanga airport handled more than 78,000 passengers in May this year, reflecting a continued rise in air travel demand from north Bihar.
According to airport data, flights to major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Kolkata witnessed high demand during the month, with most services operating close to full capacity.
Average seat occupancy across flights stood at around 92%, indicating sustained growth in passenger traffic.
Summer holidays and wedding season drive demand
Airport officials attributed the increase in passenger numbers to a combination of summer vacations, the wedding season, and travel related to employment and business activities.
Darbhanga has emerged as a key aviation hub for residents of north Bihar, with demand for direct flights to metropolitan cities continuing to grow.
10 May recorded as busiest day
The highest daily passenger traffic was recorded on May 10, when 2,993 passengers travelled through the airport on 18 flights.
In contrast, May 30 saw the lowest passenger movement during the month. Eight flights operated on that day, carrying a total of 1,442 passengers.
Expansion expected to improve passenger experience
Airport authorities expect passenger traffic to increase further in the coming months, supported by improved connectivity and direct flight services.
Officials said the ongoing airport expansion project and the construction of a new terminal building are expected to enhance passenger facilities and support future growth in traffic.
The upgraded infrastructure is expected to provide travellers with improved amenities and greater operational capacity once completed.
