Patna: Efforts by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to pacify senior leader Shivchandra Ram have gathered pace after he publicly expressed disappointment over not being selected as the party’s candidate for the Bihar Legislative Council elections.
Shivchandra Ram, who serves as the national president of the party’s SC/ST Cell, had announced his resignation from party posts a few days ago, alleging injustice after being denied an MLC ticket. His emotional remarks before the media drew attention within political circles and prompted an immediate response from the party leadership.
Senior Leaders Visit Hospital
Shivchandra Ram is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Patna. During his stay, several RJD leaders visited him to inquire about his health and discuss party matters.
Among them was RJD MLA Bhai Virendra, who met Shivchandra Ram and urged him to maintain confidence in the party leadership. According to party sources, the visit was part of ongoing efforts to address his concerns and maintain organisational unity.
Sunil Singh’s Meeting Draws Attention
The visit by RJD leader Sunil Singh attracted particular attention due to the political context surrounding the MLC nomination.
Sunil Singh arrived at the hospital carrying sweets and met Shivchandra Ram. Photographs and videos from the meeting, showing the two leaders exchanging greetings and sharing sweets, have circulated widely on social media.
Party insiders described the interaction as cordial and aimed at easing tensions following the nomination process.
Contest For MLC Nomination
Shivchandra Ram and Sunil Singh were both considered strong contenders for the RJD’s nomination in the Bihar Legislative Council elections.
However, when nominations were finalised, the party selected Sunil Singh as its candidate. Following the announcement, Shivchandra Ram openly expressed his disappointment, stating that his long-standing contribution to the party had not received due recognition.
He also said that members of his community, who had been expecting his candidature, were hurt by the decision.
Resignation Announced Over Ticket Denial
While announcing his resignation, Shivchandra Ram said he had worked with loyalty and dedication for the party and its leadership for many years.
He stated that the decision to step down from party posts was taken in view of the sentiments of his supporters and community members, who felt disappointed by the denial of the ticket.
Lalu Prasad Rejects Resignation
Following the resignation announcement, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav intervened and declined to accept Shivchandra Ram’s resignation.
Party leaders subsequently met Shivchandra Ram and held discussions with him. According to the party, he will continue to hold his existing organisational responsibilities and remain associated with the RJD leadership.
The developments come at a crucial time for the party as it seeks to maintain internal cohesion during the Bihar Legislative Council election process.
