Patna: The Bihar Legislative Council elections for 10 seats are set to conclude without a contest, as only 10 candidates filed nominations, making all of them likely to be elected unopposed, according to election officials and party statements.
Unopposed Election Scenario
The nomination process for the 10 Legislative Council seats saw exactly 10 candidates entering the fray, leaving no scope for voting. The candidates represent major political formations including the Bharatiya Janata Party, Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
The BJP has fielded Bhojpuri singer-actor Pawan Singh among its candidates, while the overall list also includes nominees from alliance partners and the opposition.
Pawan Singh’s Meeting with Anant Singh
Following his nomination, Pawan Singh visited Patna residence of Mokama MLA Anant Singh for a courtesy meeting. Reports suggest Singh arrived with a convoy of vehicles, a detail that has drawn attention on social media after a video of the visit circulated online.
During the meeting, the two leaders held a brief conversation, and Anant Singh reportedly came out of his residence to see Pawan Singh off. The interaction is being described by associates as a routine courtesy call after nomination.
Political Line-Up for MLC Seats
The 10 candidates expected to be elected unopposed include four from the Bharatiya Janata Party and four from Janata Dal (United). The remaining nominations include one candidate each from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Among those named are Nishant Kumar, Bharti Mehta, Shivrani Devi Prajapati and Lalan Prasad from JD(U), Pawan Singh and Sanjay Mayukh from BJP, Ashraf Ansari from LJP (Ram Vilas), and Sunil Kumar Singh from RJD.
Background Context
The unopposed outcome has emerged due to the absence of additional nominations for the available seats, resulting in automatic selection of all candidates.
Anant Singh, a legislator from Mokama, has often been in public focus for his political influence and strong local support base. He has also faced controversy in the past, including a case registered in connection with a performance video that surfaced earlier, according to police officials.
The meeting between Pawan Singh and Anant Singh comes amid heightened political attention around the smooth conclusion of the MLC nomination process in Bihar.
