Patna: Passengers travelling through Darbhanga Airport will soon have access to modern facilities typically found at major metropolitan airports, with two advanced aerobridges arriving at the airport and installation work now underway.
The aerobridges, transported from Rajasthan, are being connected to the airport’s new terminal building. Once commissioned, passengers will be able to move directly from the terminal to the aircraft through enclosed corridors, ending the current practice of boarding flights from the runway after bus transfers.
Air-conditioned boarding facility
Airport authorities said the aerobridges are being installed as part of the ongoing expansion of passenger amenities at the new terminal. Structural and technical work required for their integration is progressing rapidly.
After becoming operational, the aerobridges will allow passengers to reach aircraft through air-conditioned corridors, making the boarding process quicker, safer and more comfortable.
Relief during extreme weather
At present, passengers are transported from the terminal to aircraft by bus and then board using mobile staircases. The arrangement often causes inconvenience during periods of intense heat, rainfall and winter conditions.
The new facility is expected to particularly benefit senior citizens, persons with disabilities, women and passengers travelling with young children.
Airport capacity set to increase
Officials said the new terminal building will also feature modern waiting lounges, expanded parking facilities and upgraded technological infrastructure.
With the expansion project nearing completion, Darbhanga Airport is expected to strengthen its role as a key aviation hub for North Bihar. Authorities are also planning to install up to five aerobridges in the future as passenger traffic continues to grow.
