Patna: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has appointed senior IAS officer Dr Thiyagarajan S.M. as its new Chairman, marking a significant administrative transition in the state’s education system. Outgoing Chairman Anand Kishore formally handed over charge on Friday in the presence of senior officials, staff members and employees of the Board.
The ceremony included a welcome for the incoming Chairman and a farewell for Anand Kishore, who led the Board through a period of major reforms in examination management and administration.
Anand Kishore Thanks Board Employees
Addressing officials and staff after relinquishing charge, Anand Kishore expressed gratitude to Board employees for their contribution during his tenure.
He said the transformation in the Bihar Board’s examination system, evaluation process and overall functioning was made possible through the collective efforts of officers and staff. According to him, these reforms helped improve the Board’s image and credibility over the past several years.
New Chairman Commits to Continuing Reforms
After assuming office, Dr Thiyagarajan praised the work carried out under Anand Kishore’s leadership and acknowledged the impact of reforms introduced during his tenure.
He said the changes implemented in the Board’s examination system had helped Bihar Board establish a distinct identity at the national level. Dr Thiyagarajan added that he and his team would continue the ongoing work with transparency, promptness and honesty.
Focus on Students’ Future
Emphasising the Board’s responsibility, Dr Thiyagarajan reminded officials and employees that BSEB plays a crucial role in shaping the future of lakhs of students across Bihar.
He said every task, whether small or significant, must be carried out with diligence and a commitment to transparency. Maintaining public confidence in the Board and safeguarding students’ trust would remain a priority, he added.
Former Patna DM Takes Charge
Dr Thiyagarajan S.M. is a 2011-batch Indian Administrative Service officer. Before his appointment as BSEB Chairman, he served as the District Magistrate of Patna.
His appointment was made under Notification No. 1/P-1001/2026-Gen. Admin.-10917, dated June 18, 2026, issued by the General Administration Department of the Government of Bihar.
The leadership change comes at a time when the Bihar School Examination Board continues to play a central role in conducting examinations and implementing educational reforms affecting millions of students across the state.
