Patna: Bihar residents may have to wait a little longer for widespread monsoon rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a mixed weather pattern across the state over the coming week.
According to the forecast, some districts will continue to experience intense heat and humidity, while others—particularly in eastern Bihar and the Seemanchal region—are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall.
Meteorologists said monsoon activity remains weak over large parts of the state, although conditions are expected to improve after June 22.
Heat To Continue In Western And Central Bihar
The IMD has warned that heatwave-like conditions could persist in several districts of western and central Bihar until June 22.
Districts likely to remain under the influence of high temperatures include Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Rohtas, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Arwal, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai and Jamui.
Maximum temperatures in these areas are expected to remain above normal, with strong sunshine and hot winds making afternoon conditions uncomfortable.
Officials said residents should take precautions against prolonged exposure to heat, particularly during peak daytime hours.
Rain Likely In Seemanchal And Eastern Bihar
In contrast, weather conditions are expected to remain relatively milder in parts of Seemanchal and eastern Bihar.
The IMD has forecast partial cloud cover and scattered rainfall in districts including Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia, Katihar, Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura, Khagaria, Bhagalpur and Munger.
Cloudy conditions and intermittent rain may lead to a slight drop in temperatures in these areas, offering some relief from the prevailing heat.
Monsoon Activity Expected To Strengthen
Meteorologists said the current combination of heat and isolated rainfall is likely to continue until June 22.
Thereafter, monsoon activity is expected to intensify across Bihar, provided atmospheric conditions remain favourable.
If the monsoon strengthens as anticipated, more widespread rainfall could begin across much of the state, helping ease the ongoing spell of heat and humidity.
Patna To Remain Hot
In the state capital, weather conditions are expected to remain largely dry on Sunday.
Patna is likely to experience strong sunshine during the day, although skies may turn partly cloudy by evening.
The maximum temperature is expected to hover between 38°C and 40°C. As of now, the IMD has not issued any specific weather alert for the city.
With monsoon progress remaining sluggish, weather officials said Bihar is likely to continue witnessing contrasting conditions across different regions until rainfall activity becomes more widespread later next week.
