Patna: The Bihar government has directed officials to speed up work on the Patna Metro Rail Project and ensure that every phase is completed within the prescribed timeline. Chairing a high-level review meeting on Monday, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said construction quality must not be compromised under any circumstances and instructed departments to prepare a comprehensive traffic management plan to minimise inconvenience to commuters.
The Chief Minister also announced that the Patna Metro extension up to Malahi Pakri will be inaugurated on July 2, 2026, describing it as a major step towards improving urban mobility in the state capital.
Metro work must meet deadlines
During the review meeting, officials from the Urban Development and Housing Department and the Patna Metro Rail Project presented a detailed progress report on the ongoing construction of Corridor-1 between New ISBT and Akashvani, along with the New ISBT–Mithapur corridor via Jaganpura.
The Chief Minister directed officials to prepare a clear timeline for every phase of the project and ensure all construction activities are completed within the stipulated deadline.
No compromise on construction quality
Samrat Choudhary said the Patna Metro is one of the city’s most important infrastructure projects and will provide residents with a modern, safe and reliable public transport system. He warned that no compromise in construction quality would be accepted and asked officials to maintain the highest engineering standards throughout the project.
He also instructed construction agencies to carry out work simultaneously at multiple locations to avoid delays.
Traffic management plan to reduce public inconvenience
With metro construction underway across several parts of Patna, the Chief Minister directed officials to prepare a scientific and integrated traffic management plan to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and minimise inconvenience to residents.
He also ordered a comprehensive study of the city’s traffic patterns to identify long-term solutions for recurring congestion and stressed strict compliance with safety norms at all construction sites.
Metro expected to ease congestion and pollution
The Chief Minister said the Patna Metro will significantly improve public transport by offering residents a fast, safe and dependable travel option. Once operational, the project is expected to reduce road traffic, lower pollution levels and make daily commuting more convenient.
Satellite township master plan also reviewed
Apart from the metro project, the Chief Minister reviewed the proposed Satellite Township for Patna and directed officials to prepare its master plan within the stipulated timeframe. He said the township should be developed in a planned and systematic manner to support the city’s future expansion and growing infrastructure needs.
The review meeting was attended by Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, senior officials of the Urban Development Department, Patna Metro Rail Corporation, the Building Construction Department, Patna district administration and the police.
