Patna: The Bihar government is preparing to make electric vehicle (EV) charging more accessible by integrating charging station locations with Google Maps and a unified mobile application, as part of a broader push to expand the state’s EV infrastructure.
The Transport Department said the initiative aims to simplify long-distance travel for EV users by allowing them to locate charging stations across Bihar through a single digital platform.
Unified Platform Planned
Officials said the department is developing an integrated mobile application that will consolidate information on charging stations operated by different companies.
At present, most charging network operators require users to access separate mobile applications to locate their facilities. Under the proposed system, information from multiple operators will be available in one place.
The department has already sought details of existing and proposed charging stations from vehicle manufacturers and charging service providers to support the integration.
Once the platform is linked with Google Maps, EV charging stations are expected to appear alongside other public facilities such as petrol pumps, hotels and restaurants.
Expansion Of Charging Network
The Transport Department is working with automobile manufacturers and oil marketing companies to expand the charging network along national and state highways.
Charging stations are planned at petrol pumps, roadside dhabas, hotels, motels, bus terminals, commercial areas and public parking facilities, with the aim of improving charging accessibility across the state.
Officials said the initiative is intended to encourage greater adoption of electric vehicles by reducing concerns over charging availability.
Financial Incentives For Private Players
To accelerate infrastructure development, the state government is offering financial assistance to private institutions and entrepreneurs willing to establish EV charging stations.
According to the department, incentives ranging from Rs 75,000 to Rs 15 lakh will be available depending on the charging capacity installed.
The subsidy programme also extends to housing societies, enabling residential complexes to set up EV charging infrastructure with government support.
Push For Electric Mobility
The Transport Department said expanding the charging network is a key component of Bihar’s electric mobility strategy.
Officials expect that integrating charging station data into a single platform and displaying locations on Google Maps will improve convenience for EV users while supporting the wider adoption of electric vehicles across the state.
