Maharashtra and Jharkhand Declare One-Day Mourning for Ratan Tata’s Passing

Mumbai/Ranchi: Following the death of Ratan Tata at the age of 86, the states of Maharashtra and Jharkhand have declared a one-day state mourning to honor the iconic industrialist. Tata, who passed away at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, was widely regarded for his contributions to the Tata Group and his role in transforming it into a global entity.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the national flag would be flown at half-mast at government offices across the state as a mark of respect, with no entertainment events scheduled. Public tributes to Ratan Tata will take place at the National Centre for Performing Arts in Mumbai from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also declared a one-day mourning, acknowledging Ratan Tata’s significant impact on Jharkhand, crediting him with bringing global attention to the state.

Tributes have poured in from across the country and around the world, with leaders like Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and business figures such as Sunil Mittal and Anil Agarwal honoring Tata’s legacy. Cornell University, Ratan Tata’s alma mater, also mourned his passing, emphasizing his legacy of transformative philanthropy.
