Patna: Patna will soon see the installation of 200 pre-fabricated shops in parks across the city under a joint initiative of the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (Jeevika) and Patna Smart City Limited (PSCL).
According to officials, the shops will be used for commercial activities, including the operation of Sudha booths and other retail outlets. The move follows changes to an earlier plan to establish a larger vending zone along JP Ganga Path.
Shops Repurposed After JP Ganga Path Plan Revised
The pre-fabricated shops were originally built as part of a proposed 500-shop vending zone along JP Ganga Path, estimated to cost around Rs 15.45 crore.
However, the proposal was modified after concerns that the structures would obstruct views of the River Ganga. The shops were subsequently removed from the site and are currently being stored near Gardanibagh High School.
Digha Vending Zone Redesigned
The state government has also revised plans for the vending zone being developed on around 1.93 acres near Digha Golambar.
Instead of the originally proposed 250 shops, the project will now feature 50 larger modular outlets. The revised project is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 7.17 crore, and its foundation stone was recently laid by the Chief Minister.
Tourism And Vendor Rehabilitation
Officials said the Digha Vending Zone is intended to accommodate both established brands and local businesses.
The project also includes the rehabilitation of vendors who previously operated along the Ganga riverbank beneath JP Setu. The government aims to develop the area as a destination for tourism and evening recreational activities.
Second Phase To Add Public Amenities
According to the revised plan, the vending zone will include additional infrastructure in its second phase, including a foot overbridge, parking facilities, public toilets, drinking water, parks and entertainment spaces.
Officials said land levelling, paving, paver block installation and drainage works for the project have already been completed.
