Patna: Traffic movement was disrupted on Friday after a section of the road caved in near Rajendra Nagar Terminal in Patna, affecting commuters travelling between Kumhrar and the railway station. The cave-in occurred near Pansiya Hotel, directly in front of the terminal.
Authorities immediately cordoned off the affected area and diverted traffic to ensure public safety. Vehicles from both directions are currently sharing a single lane, leading to congestion on one of the city’s busiest routes.
Repair Work Underway
The concerned department has begun repair work to restore the damaged stretch before the evening traffic peak. Workers have filled the sunken portion with concrete, while barricades have been placed around the site to allow the material to set properly.
Officials have also installed iron plates over a nearby section after cracks were noticed in the adjoining road, as a precautionary measure. Commuters have been advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
Traffic Diversions Continue
With only one lane open for traffic, congestion has increased in the area. Traffic management personnel are regulating vehicle movement until repair work is completed and the road is declared safe for use.
Authorities have not announced a timeline for reopening the affected section to normal traffic.
Metro Construction In The Area
The affected stretch is located near the site of the underground Rajendra Nagar Metro Station, where tunnel excavation for the Patna Metro project has been progressing.
Construction resumed after the Railways granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for work on an approximately 800-metre tunnel section between Moin-ul-Haq Stadium and Rajendra Nagar Terminal.
Rajendra Nagar To Be Patna Metro’s Deepest Station
According to the Patna Metro project, Rajendra Nagar Metro Station will be the deepest station on the network, with trains operating around 21 metres below ground level due to the railway tracks above.
The station will provide direct connectivity with Rajendra Nagar Railway Terminal, allowing passengers to transfer conveniently between metro services and long-distance trains.
The Patna Junction Metro Station, meanwhile, is being developed as an interchange connecting the Red Line and the Blue Line, improving connectivity between Danapur, Khemnichak and the New ISBT.
