Patna: A burglary worth an estimated Rs 20 lakh has been reported at the residence of a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Patna’s Gardanibagh Police Colony, located close to the official residence of the Bihar Director General of Police (DGP).
The incident occurred at House No. C/42, the residence of the late retired DSP Surya Nath Singh, in one of the capital’s most secure residential neighbourhoods, which houses serving and retired police officers as well as public representatives.
House Targeted While Family Was Away
According to police, the house was locked as Surya Nath Singh’s son, Dr. Amitabh, had travelled with his family to their native village in Lalganj.
Investigators said the burglars allegedly broke open almirahs and lockers before fleeing with gold and silver jewellery and cash.
The theft came to light on Friday evening after the family returned, following which the Gardanibagh police were informed.
Family Estimates Loss At Rs 20 Lakh
Prashant Singh Shekhar, the younger son of the late retired DSP, said the stolen property, including jewellery and cash, was worth around Rs 20 lakh.
Police said a detailed assessment of the stolen valuables is underway.
CCTV Footage Under Examination
A police team reached the spot soon after receiving information about the burglary and began an investigation.
Station House Officer Saurabh Kumar confirmed the incident and said CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined to identify those involved.
Preliminary findings suggest the accused may have surveyed the area before carrying out the burglary.
Forensic Team Called In
Police have summoned a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team to collect technical evidence from the house.
Officials said fingerprints and other forensic clues are being examined as part of the investigation.
The SHO said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the suspects at the earliest.
