Patna: The body of Bunty Kumar, a 33-year-old grocery shop owner who was abducted from Patna’s New Karbigahiya area four days ago, was recovered on Saturday from the Athmalgola police station area. Police said the body was found buried beneath the soil near the roadside at the Phulailpur bypass.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Investigators believe Kumar was killed after being abducted and that the body was buried in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime. The recovery has triggered anger and tension among residents in the locality.
Abducted Near Patna Junction
According to police and local reports, Kumar operated a grocery store in the New Karbigahiya area. On Monday night, he had gone to purchase supplies from a shop near Patna Junction when he was allegedly intercepted by a group of men.
Eyewitnesses told police that the assailants assaulted Kumar before forcing him into an auto-rickshaw and taking him away. His family subsequently lodged a missing person complaint, prompting an investigation.
CCTV Footage Provides Leads
Police said the alleged abduction was captured on CCTV cameras installed near the scene. Investigators collected the footage and are analysing it to identify those involved.
Officials said several leads have emerged from the footage, and investigators are examining the sequence of events leading to Kumar’s disappearance and death.

Police Probe Multiple Angles
Police are investigating the motive behind the abduction and murder while examining the role of all suspected individuals connected to the case.
Residents have claimed that Kumar had opposed certain alleged illegal activities, including an alleged sex racket, operating in the area. Based on these claims, locals suspect the murder may be linked to that dispute.
However, police have not officially confirmed any connection between the crime and the alleged illegal activities, stating that all possible angles remain under investigation.
Joint Investigation Underway
The Athmalgola police and Patna police are jointly investigating the case. Officials said efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible.
Police said the investigation is progressing and assured that appropriate legal action will be taken against those found guilty once the facts are established.
