DM Patna Forms Chhath Festival Cell for Smooth Management of Chhath Mahaparva, 2024

Patna: District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh has established a Chhath Festival Cell to ensure the smooth and successful organization of Chhath Mahaparva, 2024. The Deputy Development Commissioner has been appointed as the senior nodal officer of the cell, with the Special Officer of the Division and the In-charge Officer of the District Disaster Management Branch serving as the Nodal and Assistant Nodal Officers, respectively. The cell will coordinate with various departments to prepare the Ghats and access paths for the convenience of Chhath devotees.

Dr. Singh has divided 109 Ghats across the district into 21 sectors, assigning 21 teams under sector officers and sector police officers to oversee preparations. These teams are responsible for inspecting the Ghats, identifying dangerous areas, and ensuring necessary facilities are in place. The first inspection report is to be submitted by 18 October 2024.

Chhath Mahaparva, celebrated on 7-8 November this year, will include rituals such as Nahai-Khai on 5 November and Kharna on 6 November, followed by the Evening Arghya on 7 November and the Morning Arghya on 8 November. Dr. Singh emphasized the importance of excellent crowd management, security, and smooth traffic operations during the festival.

The DM congratulated officials for their successful handling of recent festivals, including Durga Puja and Dussehra, and encouraged the same level of dedication for Chhath Mahaparva. He stressed the need for coordination among departments such as Municipal Corporation, Disaster Management, Police, Electricity, and Fire Services, to ensure timely and efficient execution of responsibilities.

Law and order will be a top priority, with regular inspections of the Ghats by sub-divisional officers, block development officers, and other key personnel. Facilities such as separate toilets for men and women, clean drinking water, changing rooms, and parking arrangements will be provided. The Ghats will be barricaded, and the connecting paths will be maintained for easy access.

Dr. Singh also announced the installation of CCTV cameras, watch towers, and control rooms at the Ghats to enhance security. The Patna Smart City Ltd. will oversee surveillance, and the Electricity Department will ensure proper lighting. Ambulances, paramedical staff, and doctors will be on standby, and Civil Defense personnel will assist with law and order. All roads leading to the Ghats will be made motorable three days before Chhath Puja, ensuring smooth access for devotees.
