Patna: A student march towards Raj Bhavan in Patna over the NEET paper leak controversy, alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and other education-related demands turned confrontational on Wednesday after police stopped protesters near JP Golambar.
According to police and student organisations, officers used water cannons, tear gas shells and a lathi-charge after protesters attempted to move past barricades erected near Gandhi Maidan. Several students and media personnel were reportedly injured during the ensuing chaos.

Why Students Were Protesting
The demonstration was organised by the All India Students Association (AISA) as part of a broader protest over the alleged NEET paper leak, irregularities in competitive examinations and concerns about the education system.
Protesters also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and raised slogans against the government during the march.
Student leaders said the protest was part of a nationwide campaign against alleged corruption in recruitment and examination processes, as well as the privatisation of education.
Clash at JP Golambar
Police had set up barricades near JP Golambar to prevent the march from proceeding towards Raj Bhavan.
According to officials, protesters attempted to move beyond the barricades, leading to a confrontation with security personnel.
Police first used water cannons to disperse the crowd. When protesters continued advancing, officers resorted to a lathi-charge and fired tear gas shells, police said.
Student organisations, meanwhile, alleged that force was used against peaceful demonstrators.
Students Vow to Continue Protest
Students participating in the march said they would continue their agitation, describing it as part of a wider movement against alleged irregularities in examinations and the education system.
According to protest organisers, the demonstration was intended to highlight concerns over transparency and accountability in competitive examinations.
Traffic Hit Across Central Patna
The protest and subsequent police action disrupted traffic for several hours in and around the Gandhi Maidan area.
According to local authorities, congestion was reported on Exhibition Road, Bakarganj and adjoining routes, with long queues of vehicles affecting commuters during the protest.

There was no immediate official statement on further action following the protest. Student organisations have indicated that demonstrations will continue, while authorities are expected to review the law-and-order situation after Wednesday’s clashes.
