Patna: A violent clash broke out between Congress and BJP workers outside the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee office at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna on Wednesday, resulting in stone-pelting, physical altercations and injuries to several people.
The confrontation unfolded around 2 pm when BJP workers reached the Congress headquarters while raising slogans as part of a proposed protest. Congress workers had already gathered at the premises in anticipation of the demonstration.
Scuffle Escalates Into Violence
According to eyewitness accounts, an initial scuffle between the two groups quickly escalated into a physical clash. Workers from both sides allegedly used lathis and sticks, while heavy stone-pelting followed, turning the area into a scene of chaos.
Several senior Congress leaders, including Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram, were present at the state party office when the incident occurred.
Several Injured In Stone-Pelting
Around a dozen people were reported injured as stones were hurled by both groups during the clash. The exact number of injuries and the condition of those affected had not been officially confirmed at the time of publication.
Police personnel were deployed at the scene as the violence unfolded. However, eyewitnesses alleged that officers did not immediately intervene to stop the clashes. There was no official statement from the police regarding these claims.
Traffic Hit On Danapur–Gandhi Maidan Road
The violence disrupted traffic on the Danapur–Gandhi Maidan road, with vehicular movement coming to a standstill as the clash continued.
Stone-pelting was also reported in the direction of the Congress headquarters at Sadaqat Ashram during the protest, further escalating tensions in the area.
Authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident or announced any arrests by the time this report was published.
