Patna: Bihar government on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the new building of Guru Gobind Singh District Hospital in Patna City, alongside the launch of several healthcare initiatives aimed at strengthening public health services across the state.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Health Minister Nishant Kumar, public representatives, Health Department officials, doctors and local residents. Officials outlined the features of the proposed hospital building and the government’s plans to expand healthcare infrastructure.
Critical Care Facilities Expanded
The Chief Minister inaugurated intensive care units equipped with 105 new ICU beds and 70 ventilators across district hospitals in Bihar.
According to the Health Department, the new facilities are expected to strengthen 24-hour emergency and critical care services, enabling hospitals to provide advanced treatment for critically ill patients.
Free Pathology Services Introduced
The state also launched free pathology services in government health institutions under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) based on the hub-and-spoke model.
In the first phase, the Health Department has established 11 hub laboratories and 221 spoke laboratories. Patient samples collected at spoke laboratories will be processed using modern diagnostic facilities at the hub centres.
New Hospital Building to Enhance Healthcare Access
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the government remains committed to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring access to modern medical facilities across Bihar.
He said the new Guru Gobind Singh District Hospital building would serve people in Patna City and neighbouring areas by providing quality treatment closer to home.
The Chief Minister said the government’s objective is to ensure patients receive essential medical care within the state and reduce the need to travel to larger cities for treatment.
Free Dialysis in 25 Sub-Divisional Hospitals
Health Minister Nishant Kumar announced that free dialysis services have been introduced in 25 sub-divisional hospitals across Bihar.
He said the initiative would improve access to treatment for kidney patients in their own districts while reducing their dependence on tertiary care hospitals in major cities.
Nishant Kumar added that the new hospital building would include increased bed capacity, modern medical equipment, upgraded wards and improved infrastructure to support both patients and healthcare professionals.
District Medicine Warehouse Inaugurated
The programme also marked the inauguration of a district medicine warehouse.
Health Department officials said the new hospital complex is planned to include modern diagnostic centres, specialised medical services and other advanced healthcare facilities in future phases.
According to the government, the infrastructure projects and newly launched health services are intended to improve the availability of accessible, timely and quality healthcare for patients across Bihar while strengthening the state’s public health system.
