Patna: Political reactions have intensified in Bihar after Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi staged a protest in a high-security area in Delhi. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, popularly known as Lalan Singh, and JD(U) National Working President Sanjay Kumar Jha have criticised Gandhi’s conduct, saying it did not reflect the dignity expected of a constitutional office.

Samrat Choudhary Calls for Democratic Decorum

In a post on X, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said Rahul Gandhi’s conduct in a high-security zone was not in keeping with constitutional values and democratic decorum.

— Samrat Choudhary (@samrat4bjp) July 22, 2026

He said actions undertaken for “momentary political gain” and media attention diminish the dignity associated with the office of the Leader of the Opposition.

Choudhary added that while political differences are a natural part of democracy, respect for constitutional institutions, security protocols and public decorum should remain paramount. He said public representatives must demonstrate responsibility, restraint and dignity in line with the offices they hold.

Lalan Singh Says Conduct Was ‘Unfortunate’

Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, also criticised Gandhi’s protest in a post on X.

— Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh (@LalanSingh_1) July 22, 2026

He described the Leader of the Opposition’s conduct in the high-security zone as “extremely unfortunate and condemnable”, adding that it did not befit the constitutional office. Singh alleged that Gandhi’s actions were harming his own public image.

The Union Minister further said the office of the Leader of the Opposition carries significant responsibility and claimed Gandhi was compromising its dignity in pursuit of “cheap popularity”.

Sanjay Kumar Jha Questions Street Protest

Earlier, JD(U) National Working President and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Kumar Jha had also questioned Gandhi’s protest.

Jha said that choosing to stage a protest on the streets despite having the opportunity to raise issues in Parliament amounted to an attempt to create disorder rather than a democratic form of protest.

Political Reactions Continue

The statements by senior NDA leaders have intensified the political debate in Bihar over Rahul Gandhi’s protest in Delhi. The Congress leader has not responded publicly to the remarks made by the Bihar leaders at the time of publication.
