Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reported an increase in property tax collections during the current financial year, which officials attribute to an ongoing public outreach campaign encouraging residents to pay their dues on time.
According to the civic body, 9,634 property owners paid a combined Rs 3.61 crore in property tax between July 1 and July 22, 2026. During the corresponding period last year, 9,431 property owners deposited Rs 2.89 crore.
Property Tax Collection Higher Than Last Year
PMC said its property tax collection has continued to improve during the first four months of the 2026-27 financial year.
According to official figures, the corporation collected Rs 51.76 crore in property tax between April 1 and July 22, 2026, compared with Rs 45.43 crore during the same period in 2025-26.
Officials said the increase follows sustained efforts to encourage timely payments and improve taxpayer awareness.
Public Outreach Campaign Continues
According to PMC, officials are contacting property owners by telephone every day to remind them about pending tax payments.
The corporation said it is also using multiple communication channels to raise awareness about the importance of paying property tax within the prescribed deadline.
Officials said these efforts are intended to improve compliance and reduce delays in tax collection.
Penalty to Apply After October 1
PMC has reminded property owners that delayed payments will attract additional charges under the Bihar Municipal Property Tax Rules.
According to the rules, any property tax paid after October 1 will incur an interest penalty of 1.5% per month on the outstanding principal amount. The penalty will continue to accumulate each month until the dues are cleared.
The civic body has advised taxpayers to complete payments before the deadline to avoid additional financial liability.
Online and Offline Payment Options Available
The Municipal Corporation said property owners can pay their taxes through both online and offline modes.
According to PMC, timely payment of property tax supports the delivery of civic services and infrastructure projects while helping residents avoid penalties under the existing rules.
