Patna: The Department of Biotechnology at Patna Women’s College has begun a two-day workshop designed to provide students and research scholars with practical training in laboratory techniques widely used in biotechnology research and industry.
According to the college, the workshop, titled “Biotechnology Techniques”, is being held on July 23 and 24 and brings together undergraduate, postgraduate and research scholars for hands-on sessions aimed at strengthening their technical and scientific skills.
Workshop Opens With Focus on Practical Learning
The inaugural session was attended by Principal Dr Sister M. Rashmi, Vice Principal Dr Sister M. Tanisha, Superior of Avila Convent Dr Sister Jincy, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and faculty members from the college.
According to the organisers, speakers encouraged participants to develop practical laboratory skills and scientific aptitude through experiential learning alongside classroom education.
Hands-On Training in Core Biotechnology Techniques
The first day of the workshop featured practical sessions covering several fundamental biotechnology techniques.
According to the Department of Biotechnology, participants received training in:
DNA isolation
Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Inoculation of microbial cultures for ethanol production
These techniques are widely used in academic research, molecular biology laboratories and the biotechnology industry.
Organisers said the practical sessions are intended to familiarise participants with laboratory procedures commonly applied in scientific research and industrial biotechnology.
Department Leads the Initiative
The workshop is being organised under the leadership of Dr Arti Kumari, Head of the Department of Biotechnology.
The academic programme is being coordinated by Dr Alok Ranjan, Dr Vivek Raj and Dr Premlata Kumari, Assistant Professors in the department. According to the organisers, the workshop is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to bridge theoretical learning with practical laboratory experience.
Strengthening Research and Employability
The Department of Biotechnology said the initiative reflects its commitment to promoting experiential learning and enhancing students’ technical competencies.
According to the college, practical exposure to laboratory techniques can help prepare students for higher education, research careers and employment opportunities in the biotechnology and life sciences sectors.
The workshop concludes on July 24, with participants expected to complete practical training in a range of biotechnology applications.
