Patna: The Bihar government has announced that it will withdraw all FIRs, complaints and show-cause notices registered against individuals associated with the NEET-UG protests, marking a significant policy shift following weeks of demonstrations over alleged irregularities in the medical entrance examination.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Home Department said the process of withdrawing all such cases related to agitation up to 6 pm on July 26, 2026 would begin soon. It also said those arrested or detained in connection with the protests would be released.
Cases To Be Withdrawn
According to the Home Department, the decision applies to cases linked to protests held over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination and demands for accountability and reforms in the examination and higher education system.
The government said the withdrawal would cover FIRs, complaints and show-cause notices issued during the course of the agitation.
It also stated that no direct or indirect action would be taken in the future against those named in connection with the protests.

Detainees To Be Released
The Home Department said the process of releasing those arrested or detained during the protests would begin shortly.
The decision is expected to provide relief to students and others who participated in the demonstrations.
The statement did not specify whether the withdrawal would apply to all individuals named in the cases or whether any categories of accused would be excluded.
Decision Follows Violent Protests
The announcement comes after widespread protests led by student organisations in several districts of Bihar, during which law and order deteriorated at multiple locations.
According to figures released earlier by the Bihar Police Headquarters, hundreds of people were detained during the agitation. Many students and minors were released after verification, while those alleged to have been involved in violent incidents were produced before the courts.
Police said 91 officers and personnel were injured during the unrest. Several government vehicles were damaged, one vehicle was set ablaze, and two Block Development Officers (BDOs) in Saran sustained serious injuries. The Superintendents of Police of Siwan and Sitamarhi were also among those injured.
