Patna: Patna Police have seized Rs 1.17 lakh in cash from a luxury SUV during a vehicle-checking drive in the Pirbahore police station area ahead of the Bankipur Assembly by-election. Officials suspect the cash may have been intended to influence voters, though the investigation is ongoing.
The action followed a tip-off alleging attempts to distribute cash to voters during the election. Acting on the information, police intensified vehicle checks at key locations in the area.
Cash Recovered During Vehicle Check
During the operation, police stopped a Fortuner SUV near the veterinary hospital at Bhanwar Pokhar for inspection. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of Rs 1.17 lakh in cash from one of its occupants.
The cash was seized immediately, and the individual was taken in for questioning as part of the investigation.
Probe Into Source And Purpose Of Cash
According to preliminary findings, investigators suspect the seized amount may have been intended to influence voters during the by-election. Police said they are examining all aspects of the case and verifying the source, ownership and intended use of the cash before drawing conclusions.
No official statement has confirmed any offence or identified those involved at this stage.

Police and district authorities have intensified enforcement measures to ensure compliance with the Model Code of Conduct during the Bankipur Assembly by-election.
Officials said surveillance and vehicle-checking drives will continue across sensitive locations to prevent electoral malpractice and maintain the integrity of the polling process.
