Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has directed officials to ensure smooth and uninterrupted traffic movement on Nehru Path (Bailey Road) during the construction of the Patna Metro, ordering a series of road improvement measures to minimise inconvenience to commuters.
The directions were issued during a review meeting of the Road Construction Department held in Patna on Saturday.
Eleven Congestion Hotspots Identified
Officials informed the Chief Minister that 11 stretches along Bailey Road have been identified for traffic improvement.
Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal and Patna Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director Sandeep Kumar R. Pudukalkatti briefed the meeting on the proposed interventions.
The Chief Minister directed officials to conduct site inspections and implement measures based on local requirements, including road widening, junction improvements, removal of bottlenecks and other engineering works to facilitate smoother traffic flow.
Alternative Routes To Be Developed
Calling the Patna Metro a key project for modernising the city’s public transport system, Chaudhary stressed that construction activities should not unnecessarily disrupt daily commuting.
He instructed the Road Construction Department and the Patna Metro Rail Corporation to identify and prepare alternative routes well in advance wherever metro work is expected to affect traffic.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure that diversion routes are properly developed so commuters do not face avoidable inconvenience during construction.
Vending Zones And Better Coordination
The Chief Minister asked officials to identify suitable vending zones along Bailey Road to streamline roadside activities and reduce traffic obstructions.
He also called for closer coordination between the Road Construction Department, Patna Metro Rail Corporation, district administration and traffic police to implement a comprehensive traffic management strategy.
The plan will include alternative routes, road widening where necessary and other measures aimed at maintaining seamless traffic movement.
Citizen Convenience A Priority
Emphasising that development projects should not come at the cost of public convenience, Chaudhary directed all departments to complete traffic management measures in a time-bound manner.
He said ensuring smooth movement on Bailey Road and other affected stretches during the construction of the Patna Metro remains a priority for the state government.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal, Urban Development and Housing Department Secretary and Patna Metro Managing Director Sandeep Kumar R. Pudukalkatti, Patna District Magistrate Kundan Kumar, Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma, and other officials.
