Patna: Bihar Education Department is expanding the implementation of the Central Government’s PM e-Vidya initiative across government schools as part of its efforts to strengthen digital education. The move aims to provide students with free access to quality educational resources from home while reducing their dependence on paid coaching institutes.

As part of the initiative, the department organised a five-day state-level orientation and training workshop at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Patna, from July 27 to July 31. Teachers from across the state were trained to use the platform effectively and develop digital learning content.

56 Teachers Participate in State-Level Training

A total of 56 teachers representing different districts of Bihar attended the workshop. Bhagalpur district was represented by Shail Pragya from Inter High School, Om Prakash from Middle School Dogachhi, and Iffat Imran from Middle School Tetarhat.

According to officials, the training focused on integrating digital learning with classroom teaching rather than replacing conventional methods. Teachers were encouraged to use online resources to improve students’ understanding of classroom lessons.

Free Access to Learning Resources

Officials informed participants that the PM e-Vidya mobile application is available free of cost and does not require any subscription.

The platform offers video lectures, study materials, practice exercises and revision resources aligned with different classes and subjects. Students can access these materials at any time, helping them revise lessons and prepare for examinations from home.

Digital Channels for Bihar Curriculum

During the workshop, teachers were informed that dedicated digital channels for Bihar, numbered BR-63 to BR-67, are available on the PM e-Vidya platform.

These channels provide content aligned with the Bihar school curriculum. Students can also access online lessons delivered by teachers from other states, offering exposure to different teaching approaches and learning methods.

Focus on Rural and Economically Weaker Students

The Education Department believes the initiative will particularly benefit students from rural areas and economically weaker families who may not have access to private coaching.

Officials said students can revisit difficult topics after school using their mobile phones, helping them maintain continuity in learning and strengthen preparation for annual and competitive examinations.

Teachers Trained to Develop Digital Content

The workshop also included practical sessions on creating educational videos and digital teaching materials.

Participants received guidance on content accuracy, simple language, presentation techniques, audio quality, lighting, camera angles and preparing lessons suitable for children’s learning needs. The department aims to enable government school teachers to independently produce quality digital educational content in the future.

Schools Asked to Promote the Platform

Following the training, participating teachers were directed to create awareness about the PM e-Vidya app among students and parents in their respective schools.

The Education Department has asked schools to encourage maximum enrolment on the platform to expand the reach of digital education and improve access to learning resources across the state.

Supporting the Digital Education Ecosystem

Education experts involved in the training said a combination of classroom teaching and digital learning is expected to become an important feature of the education system in the coming years.

Officials believe that effective implementation of the PM e-Vidya initiative can improve access to quality education for lakhs of students in Bihar while strengthening teachers’ use of digital technology in classrooms.
