Gaya/Patna: Preparations for the international tourist season at Gaya International Airport have gathered pace, with Myanmar Airways International and Myanmar National Airways planning to launch direct flights between Gaya and Yangon from October.

Airport officials said both airlines are expected to submit their final flight schedules shortly, paving the way for the commencement of regular international services during the peak Buddhist pilgrimage season.

Myanmar Flights Planned From October

According to airport authorities, the two Myanmar carriers had recently submitted a preliminary flight schedule covering the period between August 1 and August 5. However, that proposal was withdrawn on Wednesday.

Officials said the airlines are now preparing to begin regular operations from October, in line with the start of the annual tourist season in Bodh Gaya.

More International Services On The Way

The airport is also preparing for an increase in international connectivity with several other destinations.

Authorities said airlines from Thailand and Bhutan have already submitted detailed schedules for flights beginning in October.

Meanwhile, IndiGo is set to launch its first direct international service from Gaya, connecting the city with Bangkok during the upcoming tourist season.

Boost For Buddhist Tourism

The expansion of international flight services is expected to improve connectivity for Buddhist pilgrims, foreign tourists and travellers visiting Bodh Gaya, one of Buddhism’s holiest sites.

Officials believe the additional flights will also provide a significant boost to the region’s tourism industry and local economy by making travel to Gaya more convenient for visitors from key Buddhist-majority countries.
