Patna: Traffic arrangements in the city will be changed on August 15 for the main state-level Independence Day function at Gandhi Maidan. General vehicle movement will be restricted on several major roads from 7am until the event concludes.

Traffic police have advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel towards Gandhi Maidan and surrounding areas and use the designated alternative routes.

Roads Closed To General Traffic

General vehicles will not be allowed between Dak Bungalow Crossing and Gandhi Maidan. The restriction will apply to Mazharul Haque Path (Fraser Road) from Dak Bungalow Crossing to Children’s Park at Gandhi Maidan.

Vehicles coming from New Dak Bungalow Road will also not be allowed to enter towards SP Verma Road.

Traffic on Buddha Marg from Kotwali T-junction towards Police Lines will remain closed to general vehicles until the event concludes. Vehicles coming from Voltas More towards the north will be diverted through Vidyapati Marg and Buddha Marg towards Police Lines T-junction.

Vehicle movement from Chhajjubagh (SDO Residence) towards TN Banerjee Road and JP Golambar will also be restricted. The section of Buddha Marg between Chhajjubagh More and the SDO Residence will remain closed.

Pass-Holders And VIP Vehicles

Only vehicles carrying valid passes will be allowed to use the route from the JP Ganga Path ramp towards AN Sinha Institute and Gandhi Maidan.

General vehicles approaching the area in front of the Commissioner’s Office will be diverted towards Marine Drive.

The Fraser Road stretch from Dak Bungalow Crossing to JP Golambar, near the Maurya Hotel turn, will be reserved for the motorcades of the Governor, Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, their family vehicles, and VVIPs and VIPs carrying authorised coloured passes.

Vehicles From Patna Junction

Private vehicles coming from Patna Junction will be allowed to reach Dak Bungalow Crossing through Fraser Road but will not be allowed to proceed towards Gandhi Maidan.

They will have to turn east from Dak Bungalow and travel through Bhattacharya Chowk and Pirmuhani towards Nala Road.

Vehicles reaching Exhibition Road will be diverted towards Bhattacharya Chowk through the cut-point opposite Smart Big Bazaar.

Goods carriers and commercial vehicles will not be allowed to travel from Chiraiyatand Durga Mandir towards Goriya Toli.

Restrictions On Goods Carriers

Goods carriers will not be allowed from Mithapur GPO Golambar towards Buddha Marg or from R-Block towards Income Tax Golambar.

Entry of goods carriers on Bailey Road between Dumra Chowki and Bhattacharya Crossing will also be prohibited.

Commercial vehicles approaching from Police Line T-junction will not be allowed to travel east towards Gandhi Maidan or south towards Buddha Marg. They will instead be diverted west towards Ashok Rajpath.

No-Parking Zones

Parking will be prohibited on several key routes during the Independence Day event. These include:

  • Deshratna Marg, from Rajendra Chowk to Mandal Golambar
  • Circular Road, from Mandal Golambar to Lalit Bhawan Underpass
  • Bailey Road, from Lalit Bhawan Underpass to Dak Bungalow Crossing
  • Fraser Road, from Dak Bungalow Crossing to JP Golambar, continuing through Children’s Park to Kargil Chowk

Traffic authorities will remove unattended or illegally parked vehicles using cranes.

Vehicles belonging to invited guests must not be left unattended after parking. Drivers have been instructed to remain near their vehicles for security checks.

Auto And E-Rickshaw Diversions

Autos travelling from Patna Junction towards Gandhi Maidan will be allowed through New Dak Bungalow Road and Bhattacharya to the point opposite Smart Big Bazaar on Exhibition Road.

They will then return towards Patna Junction through Bhattacharya Crossing, Bhattacharya Turn, CDA Building Roundabout and Goriatoli.

Commercial vehicles will not be allowed towards Gandhi Maidan from Smart Big Bazaar on Exhibition Road or from Goriatoli.

Autos and e-rickshaws coming from Patna City will travel through Musallahpur Haat to reach Khajanchi Road South on Bari Path.

For the return journey, they will proceed from Khajanchi Road South through Khajanchi Road North to Ashok Rajpath and then towards Gaighat.

City Bus Route Changes

Buses operating the ‘Nagar’ and ‘City Ride’ services from Engineering College will travel towards Patna Junction through Gandhi Crossing, Machhuatoli, Dariyapur T-junction, Nala Road, Pirmuhani, CDA Building Roundabout and Goriatoli.

The return journey will follow the same route.

Traffic police have asked commuters to plan their journeys in advance and follow the diversions and restrictions in place during the Independence Day celebrations.
