Patna: The Bihar government is accelerating plans to link the Son and Phalgu rivers through an approximately 9km pipeline and a 22km canal, with the project expected to improve water availability in the Gaya region.
Chief minister Samrat Chaudhary announced the plans on Monday during the third meeting of the Apex Monitoring Authority of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), held via video conference from the Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing and proposed industrial, infrastructure and tourism projects in Bihar.
Gaya Industrial Cluster To Be Fast-Tracked
The government is also seeking to accelerate implementation of the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Gaya.
Chaudhary said the land-related report for the project would be made available within a week. The government has also set a target of completing essential road and water-supply infrastructure in the project area before next year.
The planned infrastructure is intended to ensure that basic facilities are available in time to support industrial activity at the cluster.
Projects Planned In Darbhanga And Muzaffarpur
Chaudhary also reviewed projects proposed in Darbhanga and Muzaffarpur under the Bhavya scheme.
He said work on the projects was being expedited with a target of completing the relevant processes within a month.
The government is also accelerating work linked to the Vishnupad Temple and Bodh Gaya corridor, with a focus on improving tourism infrastructure and connectivity to important religious and tourist destinations.
The state government said the faster implementation of industrial, infrastructure, water-supply and tourism projects is expected to create opportunities for investment, employment and wider economic activity.
Senior officials including development commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, Industries Department secretary Abhay Kumar Singh and Chief Minister’s secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh attended the meeting.
