Patna: The Department of Physics at Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University, organised the second day of COSMOS QUEST 3.0 on August 21 as part of its National Space Day celebrations.
Being held from August 19 to 22, the event is themed “India’s Space Journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047” and aims to deepen students’ understanding of India’s achievements in space science, research and emerging technologies.

Programme begins with lamp lighting and prayer dance
The day’s inaugural programme began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a prayer dance and welcome song.
Dr Kavita Verma, Head of the Department of Physics, delivered a presentation on the landing of Chandrayaan, highlighting India’s achievements in lunar exploration.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr Sister M. Tanisha A.C., Principal, Patna Women’s College.

Major General Jitendra Singh addresses students
The chief guest, Major General Jitendra Singh, Vishisht Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding, Jharkhand and Bihar Sub-Area, delivered an inspiring lecture during the programme.
Addressing the students, he encouraged them to dream big, remain committed to their goals and contribute towards the progress of the nation.
School students participate in space science quiz
As part of COSMOS QUEST 3.0, a quiz competition was organised for students of Prayas, Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Rajendra Nagar, Patna.
A total of nine teams participated in the competition.
Aman Mishra and Anshu Kumar secured the first position, while Gaurav Choudhary and Sonu Kumar stood second. Ankit Kumar and Sumit Kumar secured the third position.
The participating students displayed enthusiasm and demonstrated their knowledge and interest in space science.
Experts discuss space research and modern technology
The afternoon session featured guest lectures by experts from the fields of physics, space science and technology.
Dr Sardar Singh Rao, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, B.N. College, delivered a lecture titled “Exploring the Sun-Earth Connection: Scope and Facilities of Space Science Research.”
The second lecture was delivered by Dr Anand Sharma, Post Doctoral Scientist, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, California, USA, on “Thin Layers, Big Impact: The Physics Behind Modern Devices.”
The sessions provided students with insights into space science research, the relationship between the Sun and Earth, and the physics underlying modern technological devices.
120 students attend second day
Around 120 students participated in and attended the second day of COSMOS QUEST 3.0.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr Amrita, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics and Organising Secretary, followed by the National Anthem.
The event was organised by Dr Kavita Verma, Dr Aprajita Krishna, Dr Rohit Singh and Dr Amrita of the Department of Physics, Patna Women’s College.
