Patna: Bihar Public Health Engineering Department Minister Sanjay Singh has sent a legal notice to Tej Pratap Yadav, demanding an apology over allegations the Janshakti Janata Dal president made concerning an alleged incident at a hotel in Delhi. Singh has warned of filing a defamation case seeking Rs 50 crore in damages if Tej Pratap does not apologise within seven days.
The notice was sent by Singh’s advocate, Sushil Kumar, through WhatsApp and email.
According to the notice, Tej Pratap Yadav made what Singh’s legal representative described as false and fabricated allegations on X, formerly Twitter, with the alleged intention of damaging the minister’s reputation and raising questions about his political and public conduct.
What did Tej Pratap allege?
Tej Pratap Yadav had posted on X alleging that serious accusations had emerged against Singh, the MLA from Mahua, over alleged inappropriate behaviour towards a young woman at a Delhi hotel.
Tej Pratap further claimed that hotel staff intervened and brought the situation under control. He also alleged that the matter was subsequently suppressed through a payment of approximately Rs 25 lakh.
Calling for an impartial investigation, Tej Pratap said the public had a right to know the facts and that legal action should follow if the allegations were established. The allegations have not been independently established.
Minister demands apology
Singh has rejected the allegations and described them as an attempt to defame him and the state government’s Cabinet of Ministers.
Through the legal notice, Singh has demanded that Tej Pratap publicly withdraw the allegations and apologise within seven days.
The notice states that failure to comply would result in the initiation of a defamation suit seeking Rs 50 crore in damages.

Political rivalry adds to controversy
The dispute also has a political backdrop. Singh was elected from the Mahua Assembly constituency in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the same seat from which Tej Pratap Yadav had contested and lost.
For the November 2025 Assembly election, Tej Pratap had declared total assets of approximately Rs 2.88 crore in his election affidavit for Mahua.
Following Yadav’s allegations, Singh challenged anyone possessing evidence supporting the claims to come forward. He reiterated that if the allegations were proved true, he would retire from politics.
The latest legal notice has now escalated the dispute from a political exchange on social media into a potential defamation case.
