Patna: The long wait for librarian recruitment in Bihar may finally be nearing an end. The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has announced the schedule for the School Librarian Eligibility Test-2026, providing fresh hope to thousands of candidates who have been waiting for recruitment opportunities.
According to the schedule, the examination will be conducted from November 19 to December 10, 2026, while the results are targeted for release in the last week of December.
The online application process will begin on October 1, 2026, and candidates will be able to apply until October 21, 2026.
The Bihar Board is expected to release a detailed notification separately, covering the application fee, eligibility criteria, examination centres, syllabus, exam pattern and other important instructions.
18-Year Wait for Librarian Recruitment
The announcement is particularly significant because the last librarian recruitment in Bihar took place in 2008. Since then, aspirants have been waiting for fresh appointments.
Over the years, candidates have repeatedly raised the issue of vacant librarian positions in schools, colleges and universities across the state. Protests and demonstrations have also been held demanding the filling of these posts.
The announcement of the eligibility test has therefore renewed hopes among candidates who have been preparing for librarian recruitment for years.
However, the eligibility test itself should not be treated as a direct recruitment announcement. It is an important step towards establishing eligibility for future recruitment.
Applications to Begin on October 1
According to the BSEB schedule, candidates can submit their applications online from October 1 to October 21, 2026.
Candidates should keep their educational certificates, photographs, signatures and other required documents ready before the application window opens.
Applicants are also advised to carefully check details such as their name, date of birth and educational qualifications before submitting the form. Any information regarding the application fee, detailed eligibility requirements and other conditions will be available in the official notification.
Exam Scheduled From November 19 to December 10
The School Librarian Eligibility Test-2026 will be conducted between November 19 and December 10. The examination may take place on multiple dates.
The exact examination date and centre allotted to individual candidates will be provided through the detailed notification or subsequent instructions issued by the Bihar Board.
The Board has set a target of releasing the examination results in the last week of December 2026.
Passing the Test Does Not Guarantee a Job
Candidates should note that clearing the School Librarian Eligibility Test will not automatically guarantee appointment as a librarian.
Those who qualify will become eligible for future librarian recruitment opportunities. The number of vacancies, recruitment procedure, merit list and other selection criteria will be known only after the government or concerned department issues a separate recruitment notification.
For now, candidates’ immediate focus will be on preparing for and qualifying the eligibility test.

Teacher Transfer Policy Also in Focus
Meanwhile, Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari has shared an update regarding the transfer of government teachers in Bihar.
According to the minister, teachers who have two years or less of service remaining will not be transferred. He also clarified that the teacher transfer policy is voluntary, meaning teachers will not be transferred compulsorily.
Teachers will be able to apply for transfers according to their preferences under the policy.
