Patna: Bihar is exploring the expansion of artificial intelligence and digital technology in its education system, with Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari holding discussions with representatives of Google for Education on teacher training, digital learning tools and possible AI labs.
According to reports, the discussions covered initiatives ranging from school education to higher education, with a focus on preparing teachers and students for wider use of emerging technologies.
AI Training For Teachers Under Discussion
Tiwari met Google for Education India Head Sanjay Jain and Niti Verma to discuss the increasing role of technology in education and the skills needed by teachers and students.
The meeting discussed the possible expansion of the Google AI Educator Training Series across school and higher education institutions in Bihar.
The proposed initiative would focus on helping teachers use AI and modern digital tools in teaching and learning, rather than only providing access to technology.
Capacity Building And Digital Tools
Discussions also covered the possibility of providing free capacity-building and training programmes for teachers, according to the report.
Teachers could receive training on the use of AI-based tools and digital resources to support lesson planning, teaching methods and student learning.
The meeting also discussed the potential use of AI platforms such as Gemini and NotebookLM by teachers and students as part of the broader digital education initiative.
AI Labs Proposed For Selected Schools
The Bihar government is also considering the possibility of establishing AI labs in selected schools, where students could gain exposure to artificial intelligence and related digital technologies.
The discussions also included creating a safe and age-appropriate digital learning ecosystem for students.
A proposal to deploy Chromebooks in selected educational institutions was also discussed as part of efforts to expand access to digital learning resources.
Government Focus On Future-Ready Skills
Tiwari said the government’s objective was to equip teachers and students with future-ready skills as technology continues to reshape education and employment.
“The Bihar government’s goal is to equip teachers and students with future-ready skills. As technology changes rapidly, the education system must also move forward with time so that students are prepared for future needs and new employment challenges,” he said.
The meeting was also attended by Education Department Special Secretary Dharmendra Kumar and Bihar School Examination Board Chairman S Thyagarajan.
The proposals discussed during the meeting are yet to be detailed in terms of implementation timelines, institutional coverage and operational framework.
