Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation has approved 93 development proposals, including a plan to spend more than Rs 500 crore to strengthen the city’s water supply system. The decisions were taken at a meeting of the corporation’s empowered standing committee chaired by Mayor Sita Sahu on Wednesday.
The proposed water supply works include the expansion of pipelines across 60 areas, construction of water tanks at several locations and installation of high-capacity borewells to improve water availability in different parts of the city.
Deputy Mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi, Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, Additional Municipal Commissioners and other officials attended the meeting.
Water Pipeline Expansion And High-Yield Borewells
Along with pipeline expansion, the corporation has approved high-capacity and high-yield borewells at several locations.
The planned works cover areas including Gokul Path, Sahdev Path, Indrapuri, Mahesh Nagar, Shivpuri and CP Thakur Path in Ward 7, Gayatri Mandir Road in Ward 34, and Janta Road and Patthar Gali in Ward 16.
Works are also planned in Akhilesh Nagar, Navneet Colony, Shiv Chak Maal, Sahu Colony and Maurya Colony in Ward 61, as well as Sabzi Mandi and Mangal Talab in Ward 62.
In Sabzpur area of Ward 3, the plan includes providing water connections to 700 households and laying 500 feet of pipeline. High-yield borewells are also proposed near Raghunath High School, Buddhijeevi Colony and other locations.
15 Vending Zones Planned
The corporation will establish 15 new vending zones to organise street vendors and help reduce congestion on roads and footpaths. The projects will be funded through the municipal bond fund.
The identified locations include Machhli Bazaar, Anta Ghat, Boring Road Chowk to Rajapur Bridge, Rajapur, Sheikhpura Mor, Beur Mor, Fish Market Auto Stand, Musallahpur Haat, Premchand Golambar, Bahadurpur, NIT Mor, Danka Imli, Gayghat, Meena Bazaar and Sati Chauraha.
Rs 261.84 Crore For 15 Multi-Purpose Buildings
The civic body has also approved a proposal involving around Rs 261.84 crore for 15 multi-purpose buildings.
These facilities will include vending zones along with commercial complexes, marriage halls and hotel facilities at different locations. The projects are also expected to generate regular revenue for the municipal corporation.
Three Commercial Complexes At Rs 530 Crore
The meeting also cleared plans for three commercial complexes with a combined estimated cost of around Rs 530 crore.
In the Patliputra zone, a commercial complex will be constructed on 3 acres near the AN College water tank, at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore.
In the Bankipore zone, another complex is planned on 1.20 acres on Arya Kumar Road, with an estimated cost of Rs 133 crore.
A third complex will be constructed on 1 acre near Khaitan Market, at an estimated cost of Rs 97 crore.
12 Robotic Machines For Drain And Manhole Cleaning
The corporation has also agreed to purchase 12 robotic machines for cleaning sewers and drains. The move is aimed at reducing the need for manual cleaning of manholes.
The machines will be mounted on light motor vehicles, with their operation and maintenance also included in the arrangement.
Miller School Water Tank To Be Renovated
The water tank located on the Miller High School campus will be renovated, while a modern cafeteria will also be constructed on the premises. The combined work is estimated to cost Rs 3.48 crore.
The corporation will also enter into an MoU with NBCC for the redevelopment of dilapidated municipal buildings and plots.
849 Local Development Schemes Approved
A total of 849 local development schemes in different municipal wards have received administrative approval under the Rs 1 crore Councillor Fund Scheme 4.0.
The projects form part of the corporation’s broader programme for local infrastructure and civic development across Patna.
Pataliputra Festival To Mark PMC Anniversary
The corporation has approved plans to organise the Pataliputra Festival to mark its 75th anniversary.
The festival is expected to cost around Rs 20–25 crore. The proposal estimates that tourism and local business activity generated through the event could contribute an economic turnover of Rs 325–540 crore.
Street Light Maintenance To Continue
The corporation has sought guidance from the Urban Development Department on the installation of solar street lights.
Until a new agency is selected, the existing agency, EESL, will continue maintenance work through an extension. The arrangement is intended to ensure that street-lighting services do not face disruption.
The approved agenda also covers several other civic works, including construction and repair of roads and drains, water-supply pipelines and connections, high-capacity borewells, community buildings, road naming, toilet construction and reconstruction of existing community facilities.
The corporation has also approved the installation of new street lights, automation of existing street lights and chlorinators at 93 water-supply centres, along with other ward-level infrastructure works.
