Patna: Rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely across several parts of Bihar on Friday, September 4, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heavy rainfall warning for four districts.
West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj and Siwan are under the heavy rain alert. The weather department has advised residents in these districts to take precautions as periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning are possible.
30–40 km/h winds, lightning risk
The IMD has forecast winds of around 30–40 km/h during thunderstorms and rain in affected areas. Lightning is also possible, increasing the risk during outdoor activities.
Residents have been advised to avoid open fields and taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms. People should move to safer locations when weather conditions deteriorate.
Rain likely across several districts
Rain warnings have also been issued for Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Bhagalpur, Banka, Khagaria, Munger and Saran.
Cloud cover and rainfall are expected to keep temperatures moderate across parts of north-western and north-central Bihar, potentially providing some relief from the humid heat.
Relatively pleasant conditions are expected across West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Vaishali, Samastipur, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura and Purnia.
All 38 districts recorded rain
According to Bihar government Water Resources Department data for September 3, rainfall was recorded in all 38 districts of the state, although the amount varied significantly.
Bhojpur recorded the highest rainfall at 35.89 mm, followed by:
- Banka: 34.35 mm
- Rohtas: 21.97 mm
- Aurangabad: 21.19 mm
- Madhepura: 20.58 mm
- Purnia: 20.50 mm
At the other end of the scale, the lowest rainfall was recorded in Siwan at 0.21 mm and Gopalganj at 0.34 mm.
Rain spell likely to continue
The Meteorological Department expects rainfall activity to continue across several parts of Bihar over the coming days.
With thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds possible alongside the rain, residents are advised to remain alert and follow local weather and safety advisories.
