Patna: Weather conditions are expected to change across parts of Bihar on Sunday, September 6, with the Meteorological Department forecasting rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in several districts.
The northeastern parts of the state are likely to see the most intense weather activity. An orange alert has been issued for seven districts, while 18 others have been placed under a yellow alert.
No weather warning has been issued for southwest and south-central Bihar.
Orange alert in seven districts
Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia and Katihar have been placed under an orange alert for Sunday.
These districts may experience heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and adverse weather conditions accompanied by strong winds.
Residents have been advised to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and rain. People working in fields or other exposed locations have also been urged to monitor weather conditions closely.
18 districts under yellow alert
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for:
- West Champaran
- East Champaran
- Gopalganj
- Siwan
- Saran
- Sitamarhi
- Sheohar
- Muzaffarpur
- Vaishali
- Darbhanga
- Madhubani
- Samastipur
- Khagaria
- Lakhisarai
- Munger
- Bhagalpur
- Banka
- Jamui
People in these districts have also been advised to remain cautious during periods of rain and thunderstorms.
No warning has been issued for Buxar, Bhojpur, Patna, Arwal, Jehanabad, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Nawada, Gaya, Aurangabad, Rohtas and Kaimur.
Bihar rainfall deficit at 35%
According to Meteorological Department data available up to September 5, Bihar received normal rainfall over the preceding 24 hours.
However, cumulative rainfall for the state remains below normal. Bihar has recorded 524.1 mm of rain against a normal 812.2 mm, resulting in a 35% deficit.
The state recorded its highest maximum temperature of 36.4°C on September 4 at Bhabua in Kaimur. On September 5, the lowest minimum temperature was 25°C, recorded at Valmiki Nagar in West Champaran.
Siwan records highest rainfall
Siwan received the highest rainfall in Bihar over the preceding 24 hours.
Nautan in Siwan recorded 80.8 mm, followed by Goriakothi with 80.2 mm and Bhagwanpur Hat with 78.6 mm.
With heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast in northern and northeastern districts, residents in the alert zones are advised to exercise caution, particularly during periods of lightning and strong winds.
