Bihar’s Panchane river is set to get a new landmark as a rainbow-coloured pedestrian bridge near the Surya Temple in Ashanagar, Nalanda, nears completion.
The bridge, built at a cost of around Rs 1.50 crore, will connect Ashanagar with Basarbigha and provide residents with a more direct route across the river.
Construction work is in its final stage, with finishing work currently under way. The bridge is expected to be opened to the public after the remaining work is completed.
Rs 1.50 Crore Project Nears Completion
The bridge has been constructed under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme through the Bihar Urban Development Corporation (BUDCO).
BUDCO assistant engineer Kundan Kumar Tripathi said the main construction work has been completed and only final-stage work remains.
The bridge has been designed with rainbow colours, giving it a distinctive appearance compared with conventional pedestrian bridges in the area.
Shorter Route For Residents
The bridge will provide a direct connection between Ashanagar and Basarbigha, reducing the need for residents to take the longer route through Kisan College Road.
The crossing is expected to benefit pedestrians, farmers and people from nearby rural areas who regularly travel between the two sides of the Panchane.
For local residents, the bridge is intended to address a long-standing connectivity requirement while making everyday movement easier.
Boost For Chhath Connectivity
The bridge is also expected to be useful during Chhath, when the Surya Temple and nearby ghats attract large numbers of devotees.
A direct pedestrian crossing could make access to the temple and surrounding areas easier for people travelling from nearby settlements.
Its location and distinctive design are also expected to give the area a new visual landmark.
A New Landmark Along The Panchane
The rainbow design has added a prominent visual element to the bridge, which is already attracting attention before its official opening.
The project combines a basic connectivity requirement with an effort to improve the appearance of the surrounding urban area.
Former mayor Sudhir Kumar said the bridge was constructed following the recommendation of local MLA Dr Sunil Kumar and would help address the connectivity problems faced by residents.
Focus On Local Connectivity
Once opened, the bridge will provide a dedicated pedestrian route between the two settlements and reduce dependence on the longer existing road connection.
With construction nearing completion, residents are now awaiting the bridge’s formal opening and the start of regular public use.
The project is expected to improve local connectivity while adding a colourful new landmark along the Panchane river in Nalanda.
