NIA’s Patna Mystery Deepens: Ranchi RSS Attack Probe, Fresh Raid And Rs 20 Lakh Cash

The NIA conducted another search at a Patna apartment on September 9 in connection with the Ranchi RSS office attack probe, a day after an earlier operation at the same complex led to the detention of a man and the recovery of around Rs 20 lakh in cash.

Patna: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted another search at an apartment complex in Chitragupt Nagar, Patna, on Wednesday morning as part of an investigation reportedly linked to an attempted attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Ranchi.

The NIA team reached Sai Kusum Infinity Apartment and searched two flats, numbered 1206 and 609, according to the report. Around eight NIA personnel were involved in the operation. Both flats were reportedly taken on rent in the name of a person identified as Sandeep.

The latest search came a day after an earlier NIA operation at the same apartment complex, during which a man was detained and around Rs 20 lakh in cash was recovered. The Income Tax Department was also informed about the cash seizure, according to the report.

NIA Returns To The Same Apartment

The September 9 operation followed the NIA’s search in the Chitragupt Nagar police station area on September 8. Sources cited in the report said the agency was investigating possible links to an accused arrested in Delhi and that information obtained during the investigation led the team to Patna.

The earlier operation reportedly resulted in the detention of a man from the apartment complex. Sources further claimed that another person suspected of involvement in terrorist activities was also taken into custody from Flat 609 and taken away by the NIA.

However, the available information does not establish that the Rs 20 lakh recovered during the operation was directly connected to the Ranchi RSS office attack.

Rs 20 Lakh Found In Scooter

The earlier action took place at an apartment near Judio Mall, close to the main road. According to police sources cited in the report, the NIA team had arrived to conduct a search but initially entered another flat.

The occupant allegedly became alarmed after seeing the NIA team and attempted to leave the building. STF personnel and officers from the Chitragupt Nagar police station were reportedly already present below the apartment.

The man was detained as he allegedly attempted to leave on a scooter. Police searched the vehicle and found around Rs 20 lakh in cash inside a bag kept in the scooter’s storage compartment.

Chitragupt Nagar police station officer Shankar Jha said the man was identified from his Aadhaar card as Anmol Kumar Modi, a resident of Chakya Ward 7 in East Champaran.

Ranchi RSS Office Attack Under Probe

The Patna searches are reportedly linked to the investigation into an attempted petrol-bomb attack on the RSS office in Nivaranpur, Ranchi, on June 16.

According to police, two unidentified men allegedly attempted to throw bottles containing petrol into the office premises late at night. The bottles reportedly fell outside the boundary wall, preventing a larger incident. The office was not damaged in the incident.

CCTV footage from the area reportedly showed two people approaching the RSS office. The footage also showed them allegedly setting fire to bottles containing petrol before attempting to throw them towards the premises.

Investigation Extends From Ranchi To Patna

The repeated searches at the Patna apartment have brought attention to the possible links being examined by investigators between the Ranchi incident and individuals or locations in Bihar.

The NIA has not, based on the information available for this report, publicly confirmed that the Rs 20 lakh cash recovered in Patna was connected to the Ranchi attack. The exact nature of the alleged connection and the role of the people questioned or detained remain subject to the ongoing investigation.

With the NIA returning to the same apartment complex within a day, investigators are continuing to examine evidence and possible links as part of the wider probe.
